A Stroll with a Lovely Family from Singapore

I had the pleasure of taking a leisurely walk around Shima Onsen with a friendly family from Singapore who have visited Japan many times.

On this trip, they plan to visit various hot springs in Gunma Prefecture, including Kusatsu, Minakami, Takaragawa, and Ikaho.

When I asked why they chose Shima Onsen, they said it was because it’s rumored to be the inspiration for a Studio Ghibli film (Sprited Away).
Naturally, they were thrilled to see Sekizenkan, the historic inn that’s said to have inspired the movie, and took lots of photos in front of it.

And the highlight of the tour?

どんぐり (Donguri) Acorns

Acorns!
They spotted some acorns on the path and happily exclaimed, “It’s Totoro’s acorns!” with big smiles on their faces.

Though it felt like a summer day despite being autumn, we had a wonderful time walking together.
I look forward to seeing them again soon.
